AGILE EXCELLENCE FOR PRODUCT MANAGERS

The Challenge of Agile Product Management

The product management role is critical to delivering successful technology products that meet the needs of the market and that are delivered in a timely manner.  To be successful, product management must have clear processes and methodologies for communicating product requirements to the development team and planning release schedules.  To achieve this, most product managers have been trained in methodologies that were based on more traditional waterfall development techniques, but the majority of software companies have already moved to agile development methodologies and for those companies that haven’t adopted agile development techniques, most of them are evaluating it.

This creates a challenge for product managers for multiple reasons.  First, the role of the product manager in many companies is typically not clearly defined and adding agile processes makes the role even more unclear.  Second, most training in agile is targeted to the development team, leaving the product manager to fend for themselves in trying to understand how their role fits into the process.  This need for guiding product managers in agile development has been met with the 280 Group Agile Product Management Excellence (APME) Course and AIPMM Agile Certified Product Manager (ACPM®) Certification.
